Get rid of the "scrawling": Originality

Originality. Something we all crave but few of us achieve. The thing is what does it really man to be "original"? We are all our individual selves, so how can we NOT be original? As long as you're being yourself and you have no desire to be anyone but yourself, you're original, because no one else can be you. It seems to me like that word is used quite often but people don't really think about what it actually means.
So what do people truly mean when they say someone isn't original? Is it that, they're not original at what they do or how they come off as to people?
If that's what it is, then yes, it really is difficult to achieve originality. The thing is, how can YOU yourself know that you're coming off as original or that your work is original, when you see so many things around you that influence you and bias you? Do yo question your originality every now and then, to get back on track perhaps? Or do you look around for a bit just to make sure you're the first to do whatever you're doing, in fear of being called unoriginal?
It's all quite confusing, isn't it? What do you think about all of this?

Paint for thoughts

What do you think about all of this?
